PAP Smear

A Pap smear is a simple screening test that checks for abnormal cell changes on the cervix, helping to detect early warning signs before they develop into more serious conditions. Regular Pap smears are one of the most effective ways to protect your long-term reproductive health, and doctors generally recommend them for women from their twenties onwards. AG Lifecare Clinic offers Pap smear screening in a private, comfortable setting with a caring female-friendly approach, so you can feel at ease throughout your visit. We understand this test can feel uncomfortable to think about, which is why our team takes extra care to explain each step and answer any questions you may have beforehand.

Who Should Consider This

What to Expect During Your Visit

Before your appointment, we recommend avoiding intercourse, douching, or vaginal medication for about two days, as these can affect the accuracy of results. The procedure itself is quick, usually taking less than five minutes, and involves a gentle collection of cells from the cervix using a soft brush or spatula. Some patients feel mild pressure but it is not usually painful, and our team will guide you through each step so you know what to expect. Results typically take a few days to a week, and we will contact you with your results and explain clearly what they mean, along with any recommended follow-up.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pap Smear

How often should I get a Pap smear?

Most guidelines recommend a Pap smear every three years for women aged 21 to 65 with normal results, though your doctor may suggest a different interval based on your personal risk factors and history.

Can I get a Pap smear during my menstrual period?

It is generally best to avoid scheduling your Pap smear during your period, as this can affect sample quality. We recommend booking your appointment for a time when you do not expect to be menstruating.

What happens if my results come back abnormal?

An abnormal result does not automatically mean cancer. Our doctor will explain what the finding means, and in most cases you will simply need a repeat test or a further examination to monitor the change over time.

A Pap smear is often included in our women’s health packages, alongside general health screening. See our full range of services.

Many patients choose to combine their Pap smear with an ultrasound or general health screening during the same visit to make the most of their appointment.
